“We envision a future where organic agriculture is the norm, not the exception. We believe that by working in harmony with nature, we can produce healthy food, promote sustainable livelihoods, and protect the environment for us and generations after.”

My name is Mrs. Adeorike Oluwagbenro, and I’m committed to promoting healthy food systems through organic practices through my farm, Fundae Integrated Farm, in Nigeria. From leading my farm in Lagos State to leading community engagement initiative, to my involvement in the training by Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria (NOAN), I’ve witnessed how organic can create a positive impact on our community and contributing to a healthier food system.

Leading an integrated farm

The Fundae Integrated Farm grows a variety of crops including vegetables, and root crops like potatoes, rice, and beans. Our thriving poultry section, which makes use of natural manure for our crops, has grown from 25 Heritage Chickens in June 2022 to 800-900 birds today, producing healthy eggs and meat. We’ve also established a processing section, where we transform our fresh produce into packaged products for our customers. This integrated approach allows us to control every aspect of our business, from production to marketing.

Promoting self-sufficiency

To promote urban gardening and self-sufficiency, I initiated the “Grow Your Own Food Challenge”. This initiative has empowered over 130 participants to grow their food using pots, bags, and backyard gardens. The platform provides a supportive community where members can share knowledge, ask questions, and showcase their progress.

Recognitions and Achievements

Our farm has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Best Organic Farmer of the Year’ award for 2024. This recognition highlights our unwavering commitment to promoting organic agriculture and empowering communities through sustainable, eco-friendly farming practices.

Engaging communities, expanding the impact

I have been privileged to share my expertise in organic farming practices with various groups, including women’s organizations, community gatherings, and church events. These opportunities enable me to promote sustainable agriculture, empower individuals, and contribute to a healthier food system. I believe that by working in harmony with nature, we can produce healthy food, promote sustainable livelihoods, and protect the environment for us and generations after.
