“My vision for organic agriculture is one where farmers are equipped with knowledge and resources to build self-sustaining ecosystems, where pest control is achieved through ecological balance rather than synthetic inputs.”
My name is Jan Dietrick and I’m the President of Rincon-Vitova Insectaries, a pioneering company that produces and distributes beneficial insects for natural pest management. My role in Rincon-Vitova Insectaries has given me the opportunity to:
- Innovate organic natural pest management
- Expand the adoption of integrated biological pest management
- Empower farmers to reduce dependence on chemical pesticides
Innovating organic pest management
One of the key focuses of my work is to expand the reach of Rincon-Vitova’s insectary operations, making natural enemies of pests more accessible to organic farmers. I have supported research and implementation of innovative approaches, including habitat conservation techniques to foster beneficial insect populations. These innovative approach help enhance organic production by reducing reliance on synthetic inputs, improving soil health, and strengthening farm resilience.

Building Capacity and Community
Another major pillar of my work is to educate farmers, extension agents, and consumers on the benefits of biological control. Through workshops, field demonstrations, and accessible educational materials, I have managed to reach out to thousands of growers to implement practical, sustainable pest management strategies. I also collaborate with organic farming organisations, growers’ networks, and environmental groups to advance ecological literacy and regenerative farming principles.

Navigating Challenges, Embracing the Future
At the moment, we are confronted with several major challenges: misinformation about biological control, regulatory hurdles, and insufficient investment in organic research. Despite these obstacles, I remain committed to growing the organic movement and ensuring that future generations have a healthier planet.
My vision for organic agriculture is one where farmers are equipped with knowledge and resources to build self-sustaining ecosystems, where pest control is achieved through ecological balance rather than synthetic inputs.
I believe that by strengthening local and global networks of organic growers, researchers, and advocates, we can create a more just, resilient, and biodiverse food system.
